Tomorrow’s my first day in the art/metalwork studio I share with a favorite professor/acquaintance and a few others. So far I helped move in, dropped all my stuff off there, helped host our grand opening, and helped at the open gallery on Friday, but tomorrow is my first private day (with Aki, because we’re both partners in the studio) using the space. I can’t wait to actually get some work done, now that we have a studio to work in. :D
…Seriously? …SERIOUSLY?
I finally get a Wacom Cintiq tablet after years of wanting/saving for one (I got the year-old 22HD model), and a week later, the 22HD touch just came out!
Almost wish I’d waited two weeks, as I’d have gotten the opportunity to get the brand spanking new model. Didn’t know that would happen, though.
Oh well.
When you play the Game of Lanes, you either win …or you get stuck behind a city bus.
[Someone nearly sideswiped my friend Aki and I as they went around us while we were halfway into going around a bus]
so i called the nearby starbucks to see if they were open because my dad wasn’t sure and wanted me to ask so i asked them in gollum’s voice “HELLO IS PRECIOUS OPEN TODAY?”
and the guy on the other line replied with “YES PRECIOUS IS OPEN TODAY UNTIL 3 MY PRECIOUS YESSSSSSSS”
I FUCKING FLIPPED OUT AND I WAS LAUGHING AND SOBBING
AND THE GUY ON THE OTHER LINE ASKED “IS PRECIOUS OKAY”
I HOPE YOU MARRIED HIM

No.
NO.
I’m done.
He’s even got the same damn pink hair tie as my character.
I want to scream.
GAH. Why. There was a music link on the page of a portrait of the male lead from the aforementioned story that is perfect for my character for when he gives a music box to the female lead in my story.
I just stumbled across first a Tumblr, then the linked DeviantART account, of someone who did a story very similar to mine, before me; right down to the characters and theme and such. It’s not exactly the same, but so many things are similar that my stuff looks like a shoddy knock-off of hers, though I’ve had my character since 2007, and the story since then as well (with modifications made during 2010-2012).
Similarities:
I know that’s all been done before, so neither of us is original, but her character even freaking looks like the latest update of mine.
That’s the annoying part, because just when I though I’d differentiated my story enough from what it used to be, I now have to utterly overhaul it AGAIN. (The original was a shared story with my ex, which I had to majorly edit and redo so it used none of her contributions, and was safely my own. I started working on it with a new friend, and we’ve had to redo it a few times as well to make it stand on its own)
The confusing part? I utterly LOVE the story/character of this person I found, so much so that I find myself wanting to toss out my similar character and lavish the poor artist with fanart of hers. I can’t wait for her to do something with her story, so I can utterly eat it up and get to know the full plot. Her art is amazing and the tidbits of plot info are so intriguing! I feel like she already accomplished exactly the story I’ve been striving for, and did it so well.
Which of course just leads back to me feeling down/annoyed about needing to redo mine for the umpteenth time. I hate that I ever found her DA and her story before mine was further long and before I’ve done much concept art for mine (I haven’t done any real art for it past the 2010 post-ex rewrite). It would’ve been fine if I’d been drawing consistently and had all my stuff on my DA when I found hers, but now I’ll look like I’m completely copying her if I go ahead with my story/characters as they are now.
Such a dilemma.
In case you ever forget Jon, someone will always remind you. It’ll probably be one of the first things they say to you.
I have this massive urge to draw loads of really dumb Game of Thrones things.
